Why We Started Valkyrie Robotics – A Private Robotics Team for Students

In Forsyth County, Georgia — one of the most competitive hubs for student robotics — hundreds of students dream of joining a VEX robotics team each year. But here’s the reality: most don’t make it onto their school teams. The interest is sky-high, but team space is limited, and often reserved for students who already have prior experience.

That’s why we created Valkyrie Robotics — a private, student-focused VEX robotics program built to give every motivated student a chance to succeed in competitive robotics, whether they’re a seasoned builder or just starting out.

Based in Forsyth County and open to students from any school or area in Georgia, Valkyrie Robotics offers hands-on experience in VEX IQ and VEX V5 competitions. Our mission is to provide access, opportunity, and elite coaching to help every student build, compete, and thrive.

What Makes Valkyrie Different

Everyone Gets In — No Tryouts or Cuts

Unlike many school-based robotics teams, Valkyrie doesn’t require prior experience or applications to join. If a student is motivated to learn, they’re welcome. We believe every child deserves a chance to explore their potential in STEM, not just those with a polished resume.

No Experience? No Problem. We’ll Teach You Everything.

Most school teams expect you to already know CAD, programming, and robot design before joining. Not here.
At Valkyrie, we teach you those skills from the ground up:

  • How to build efficient drivetrains

  • How to minimize friction in mechanisms

  • How to create CAD designs

  • How to code autonomous routines

  • How to document and win Design & Excellence Awards

You don’t need to be an expert — you just need the drive to learn.

Cross-School, Mixed Teams

Because Valkyrie is a private team, we can form groups that wouldn’t be possible in school settings. Friends from different schools can be on the same team. We group students by age and skill level, not by school boundaries.

Student-Led, Coach-Guided

Our teams are driven by student creativity, problem-solving, and leadership — with coaches serving as mentors who empower, not direct. We teach concepts, demonstrate techniques, and ask the right questions to spark discovery — but the vision, decisions, and execution are all in student hands. Whether it’s understanding a PTO, designing a lift in CAD, or perfecting an autonomous routine, we guide students toward mastery without taking over. Because when students own the process, they own the growth — and that’s where the real transformation happens.

Real Engineering & Soft Skills

Our program helps students gain practical engineering knowledge and real-world skills like:

  • 3D CAD modeling

  • Mechanical systems and efficiency

  • Autonomous programming (Python, C++, VEXcode)

  • Team collaboration

  • Leadership

  • Public speaking

  • Strategic thinking and game analysis

Camps, Clinics, and Off-Season Opportunities

Outside the main season, we also offer summer camps, and workshops, where students can experiment, explore, and deepen their understanding without competition pressure.

About Our Coaching Team

Valkyrie is led by a coach with deep experience in VEX Robotics and TSA competitions. Across both VEX IQ and VEX V5, our lead coach has earned:

  • 10+ awards, including Excellence, Design, and Teamwork Champion

  • Over 6 State and World Championship qualifications, in either IQ or V5

  • 1st Place in TSA State Robotics and is currently headed to Nationals

  • Years of mentorship and leadership experience working with teams of all ages

  • Experience running and refereeing VEX IQ competitions

This unique coaching-led-by-a-student perspective brings energy, relatability, and a high standard of excellence to our teams.

A Robotics Community for Everyone

Whether you’re just beginning your STEM journey or aiming for the World Championship, Valkyrie Robotics is here to support your growth.

We created this team because we know how hard it is to find a spot on a school team, especially in a place like Forsyth County, where robotics is booming. Valkyrie offers a clear path forward: learn, build, lead, and compete in a supportive, structured environment that pushes you to grow.
